There are nine races today on this beautiful day for racing at The Great Race Place, Santa Anita Park.

Today’s feature is The Summertime Oaks a grade 2 going a 1 1/16 on dirt in race 8.  This race attracts 5 fillies including the Gulfstream Park Oaks winner Crazy Beautiful.  The racing today is pretty competitive, so today should be a good day of racing at Santa Anita.

Race 2  ~ Maiden Special Weight 61k

4 1/2 Furlongs on Dirt

8 two year olds will race today to try to break their maiden.  4 of these horses will be making their first career start.  These two year old races we like to use horses with the experience of having a race under their belt.

#1 Takeittothebank, #3 Rock N Rye, #4 Barsini Red, #8 Agador Spartacus all exit a common race.  If we were playing a pick 4 or pick 5 we would probably use all of these runners on our ticket.

Our top selection in this race though is the #4 Barsini Red, this horse is trained by Luis Mendez who does a great job with two year olds.  This son of Midshipman broke well and chased a run away winner last out and held on for second.

We look for this guy to improve in his second start and has two works since his first start back on May 2, 2021.  We look for this youngster to be fit enough and find himself in the winner’s circle.

1 Mile on Turf

9 state bred 3 year olds and one California bred 4 year old will compete on the turf to earn their first victory.  This field of colts and geldings are pretty evenly matched and we look at this field as an opportunity to snag a nice price.

#5 Eagle in the Sky is the morning line favorite at 7/2.  He is showing up off a long layoff of around 9 months.  This will be his first start as a 3 year old and will be getting lasix for the first time.  He grabbed third in an open company event last year at Delmar on the turf then took a break.

Now he shows up for a trainer who can get one ready of a layoff and in against state breds.

#6 Big Coupe picks up jockey Flavian Prat.  This gelding ran third last out going a 1 1/8 mile.  He should appreciate the cutback to a mile.  He closed nicely his last race going 8 furlongs and just missed.  He finished less than a length behind the winner that day.
