Race 3~ Tokyo City Cup -G3
1 1/2 Miles on Dirt
This grade three contest attracts 5 horses. This field looks like the winner will be between #3 Tizamagician ridden by Flavian Prat and #5 Zestful piloted by Edwin Maldonado.
This is a rematch of sorts because they both came out of the San Pasqual (G2) last January. #5 Zestful had a outside post and got pushed wide that day and lost a bit of ground. #3 Tizamagician drew the rail and went straight to the lead.
Today should be a similar situation. These look like the class of this field. We will pick #5 Zestful to get the upper hand in this rematch. #5 Zestful races have been better the longer he goes. He ran a huge race (2nd) in the 1 3/4 mile (G2)Marathon On Breeders Cup Friday back in 2019. Before that winning a 1 1/4 stake at Los Al.
This mile and a half distance isn’t for every horse, #5 Zestful has shown the longer the race, the better he runs.

Race 4 ~ OC 40k/N1X
6 Furlongs on Turf
Eight rivals compete in this optional claiming event for fillies and mares on the turf. This race has a new face shipping in from the east coast #2 Jazzique JJ Hernandez rides for Michael McCarthy. This horse was formally trained by Chad Brown.
Horses shipping west is usually a good angle. The turf talent is definitely better on the east coast and the mid west than it is on the west coast.
This horse won once out of 4 starts and it’s only win came sprinting. It ran well in a (G3) stretching out at Belmont but it will be coming off a layoff today to sprint against this bunch.
#4 Miss Lucy is a Peter Miller trainee that will add blinkers for the first time. Flavian Prat continues to ride this gal after a couple disappointing efforts. This is definitely a good sign that he has some faith that this girl will turn things around.
Peter Miller is a sprint trainer. He connects at a 25% rate when his horses sprint. It’s a little less on the turf but still a quality 20%.
This filly looks like she has some talent and today is a good spot to try to find a good price on her. With a field that will take money in a couple different directions, she should be a pretty good value for these connections.
Santa Anita Play Of The Day
***We make our selections on a theoretical $20 base wager. We will give out $20 daily double wagers on this website. Remember, these wagers are theoretical and we use a $20 wager for two reasons. Firstly, because our plays usually run between $40-$60, which is a reasonable bankroll and secondly it’s easy to keep track of our winnings and loses per month. ***
Lets fire a daily double(s), because that’s what we do.
