Keeneland Best Bets
Day four of week two of the Keeneland spring meet is here. Â Remember, HorseRacingPlayersClub.com is giving out our free Keeneland picks all meet. Â Check our site regularly for our play(s) of the day.
Saturday is here and that means stakes races at Keeneland!  The Saturday card has 4 stakes in all including 3 graded stakes.  Springtime in Lexington means great racing, but it also can be wet.  This Saturday looks like a wet one.  We will adjust our handicapping to compensate for the rain.  To check the latest reports on the rain you can find latest weather here via weather.com.
The feature race is the (G1) Jenny Wiley going 1 1/16 over the turf course. Â The Keeneland turf course drains well and the track doesnât like moving G1âs of the turf if they donât have to.
The other stakes on turf is the Giantâs Causeway going 5.5 furlongs. Â Check for the changes like scratches and such here at equibase.com
The other two stakes are graded ones the (G3) Ben Ali going 1 1/8 miles on dirt and the (G3) Lexington going 1 1/16 on the dirt.
On Friday we gave out a winner. Â We used three horses in the Makerâs Mark Mile and they ran 1,2,3. Â Unfortunately, the shortest price finished first. Â See race below. Â Our single in the last was the favorite, and that horse won easily. Â The double paid $19.60 for $2.00 wager. Â Not too bad of a follow up from the day before.
You can read what we said about Fridayâs card here.Â
3 Expert Betting Tips For Keeneland Race CourseÂ
Race 2 ~ OC20k/SAL10k
1 Mile 1/16 on Dirt
Race 2 we are expecting wet conditions. Â We will make our selections based on this assumption.
#5 Walkoff is a gutsy little gelding. Â This guy likes his picture taken. Â He has 6 wins in 14 starts and 2 wins out of 3 starts in the wet conditions that we are expecting.
Tyler Gaffalione rode this horse back on 10/4/20 at Keeneland and won a 25k claiming event. Â This race was the same distance as they are running today 1 1/16 miles.
Tyler knows this horse and should sit a nice trip off the speed coming from its outside early. Â He should position this guy well knowing he doesnât mind a little dirt in its face.
#7 Baby I’m Perfect is a speed ball with a jockey who loves to push it to the limit. Â Louis Saez is hot as a firecracker to start the Keeneland meet. Â This guy should shove to front out of the gate and may never be caught. Â Saez has had the magic touch this meet and is riding with confidence.
If the #7 Baby I’m Perfect does get tired #5 Walkoff should be the one passing him late for the win.
Race 3 ~Â Maiden Special Weight 79k
1 Mile on Dirt
This race is carded for 8 horses. Â This is a nice field of maidens going one mile. Â When rain is in the forecast you get concerned their maybe scratches, but in a race like this many of these runners should take to the wet surface.
A stand out wet surface sire is Speighstown. Â When you look at the Tomlinson Rating for Speightstown it is off the charts. Â Thatâs not the only factor in off track handicapping but it is a good figure to have on your side.
Tomlinson Ratings are something we covered in our earlier post 10 Horse Racing Handicapping Tips You Need To Know About.
#4 Extreme is out of Speightstown. Â This colt just ran up at Turfway Park in a 6.5 furlong contest. Â He broke from the 8 hole and just ran around the track, he made it up for third but basically ran in the same position throughout the race. Â Why would we like that?
This guy looks like a two turn race is up his alley. Â Many times horses that run around the track in sprints are looking to stretch out to longer races. Â This race adds the distance that this horse could be looking for.
Watching the replay above this horse doesnât start getting into stride until the race is over. Â Thatâs not good when you are sprinting, but this is ok when you add another 3.5 furlongs to the race.
Couple this with the off track conditions, hopefully jockey Brian HernĂĄndez puts this 4 year old colt into position early and has enough left to find his way into the winnerâs circle.
The bloodlines are there to handle the wet surface on the mothers side of the breeding is a Pulpit mare, so he should be able to handle the distance  and the trainer Tom Drury is more than capable of winning second out.
Race 4 ~ Alw 81000N1X
1 1/16 Mile on Turf
Update #7 Private Island ScratchedÂ
Race 4 is carded as a turf race. Â Usually at Keeneland on rainy days they will try their best to keep graded stakes on the grass. Â But the undercard of turf races do get switched to the main track. Â This is what we are expecting.
#7 Private Island is a horse we would like on either surface. Â This son of Bodemeister has performed well on the grass and has the bloodlines to run on the dirt.
Heâs coming off his first race as a 3 year old at Tampa Bay Downs which he finished 6th in an overnight stakes race on turf.
This colt broke its maiden on turf at Kentucky Downs and the. ran in a (G2) at Keeneland the Bourbon on turf during the fall meet of 2020.
Today he will race again on lasix and should be fit. Â He just ran his best Beyer Speed Figure last race so this colt looks like he grew up a little over the winter.
Update #7 Private Island ScratchedÂ
Race 5 ~ Maiden 20000
1 Mile 1/8 on Dirt
12 runners sign on to compete for $21,000 of purse money and a prestigious winnerâs circle photo from Keeneland Race Course.
#1 Bold Victory shows up as a first time gelding making his first start for the Brendan Walsh barn. Â This new gelding does sport an 0-7 record when he was trained by Mark Casse. Â He has mainly ran on synthetic surfaces throughout his career but does have two starts on dirt.
He finished 3rd in a MSW race at Aqueduct and got 4th in a Stakes race as a maiden at Fort Erie. Â This drop in class should wake up this son of Flatter. Â Irad Ortiz picks up this mount, he should be dangerous.
#7 Midlaner is the horse we will use to try to upstage the #1 Bold Victory. Â He gets the services of jockey Tyler Gaffalione. Â This guy is another class dropper. Â He ran two respectable races finishing 4 th in both as a two year old. Â Both races he ran in good company and broke from the rail.
Eddie Kenneally entered him in a 1 1/8 race at Gulfstream after a couple month layoff and things didnât go well for this guy. Â A last place finish convinced these connections to drop him into a claimer today at Keeneland.
Maybe the drop in class wakes this guy up. Â He is running for the second time on lasix and adding blinkers today. Â Being the son of Flatter also helps when you are thinking about the weather. Â He has it in his blood that he can handle an off track surface.

***We make our selections on a theoretical $20 base wager.  We will give out $20 daily double wagers on this website.  Remember, these wagers are theoretical and we use a $20 wager for two reasons.  Firstly, because our plays usually run between $40-$60, which is a reasonable bankroll and secondly itâs easy to keep track of our winnings and loses per month. ***
Lets fire a daily double(s), because thatâs what we do.
