3 Expert Betting Tips For Keeneland Race Course
Race 1 ~ Alw 20000s
7 Furlongs on Dirt
Race 1 has 6 horses in it. It’s a interesting mix of horses trying to go 7 furlongs. We will take a deeper look into two horses in this field, the first being the #3 The Gray Blur. This 4 year old grey is racing as a gelding for the second time.
Last out he tried a sloppy track down at The Fairgrounds. This race he showed a bunch of speed but the mile and 70 yards was too much for him.
Today is a different story, the 7 furlongs might fit this guy really well. The trainer Christopher Davis has been sprinting him on turf, and occasionally sending him long. This middle distance might be what he needs to utilize his speed the best.
Many times gelding a horse will show improvement. This will help on race days and during the mornings while prepping for the upcoming races. We will give this fella another shot to see what he can do at Keeneland.
This race will probably have a considerable favorite on the outside #6 Super Sol. This horse by the numbers should win this race. This 6 year old was well thought of early in his career. He started off in the Bob Baffert barn then after one race showed up in the Steve Asmussen barn. After disappointing in both places he eventually ended up in the claiming ranks where he’s carved out a niche for himself.
Last year in October he won at Keeneland going this same distance 7 furlongs in a 20k claimer. He recently was running up at Turfway Park on synthetic in optional claiming races and even a overnight stakes.
If this guy runs back to those numbers he will be tough. But his off the pace running style in a small field, makes him a sketchy horse to want to back in this field.
Race 2 ~ Alw 81000N1X
1 1/8Mile on Dirt
Race 2 is another small field. 5 horses will be all looking to get their second lifetime win. The #2 Working Title will try to sit a perfect trip in this race. This colt is second off the bench and switching back to dirt after he came up short in his comeback attempt at Turfway Park.
What’s interesting is that he ran his best race from the Beyer Speed Figure perspective second off the layoff last year. He followed up his maiden breaking score at Indiana with a second place effort at Churchill (lost by a neck) in similar race conditions as this.
Todd Pletcher is sending out 40% of the runners in this contest. He has entered #3 Ashaar a former $650,000 Keeneland September (2018) sale graduate. This underachieving colt is on a 5 race losing streak and 3 of those races were as the chalk. This guy has the ability to win this race but looks like he could be vulnerable to an upset.
Same goes for his stablemate #5 Portos. This grey son of Tapit, he did break his maiden in a small field of 5 back in December of 2019 at Aqueduct. But since then he has only raced 4 times, twice in graded stakes, his best finish was a 3rd in the (G3) Withers in early 2020 right after he broke the maiden.
